What does it actually take to start tracking spending?
The old wizard had four steps and suggested you could skip the bank connection and start with CSV. Nice on paper — messier in practice. Users got stuck at the choice step ('which one first?'), and those who picked CSV often never came back to connect their bank at all.
We listened to user feedback and simplified. The wizard now runs one path: connect your bank, review the account list, confirm. Done. You see your first data in under a minute, with no fork in the road and no 'should I skip this step?' questions.
So where did CSV import go?
CSV import is still in Martia — we just moved it out of the wizard and into the app itself. You'll find it in account settings and under the import section. Use it when you actually need it: adding historical transactions from before you connected your bank, loading a file from a bank GoCardless doesn't support yet, or topping up a Revolut account.
While we were there, we reworked the wizard's messaging. Instead of dry 'Step 2 of 4' labels, you see what's actually happening: 'Fetching your account list from the bank', 'Checking balances', 'Categorizing the first transactions'. The wait is shorter — and you know what you're waiting for.

Yes, onboarding now requires connecting at least one bank through GoCardless. That way you see real data right away. CSV import you can add later from inside the app.
Usually a minute. Bank connection is the fastest step — you go through the GoCardless screen, return to Martia, review accounts, click 'Confirm'. AI categorization finishes in the background.
